Cherry Blossom Season in Toronto 2026: When to Visit High Park
Every spring, Toronto's High Park becomes a destination for cherry blossom viewing as the park's Sakura trees burst into bloom. The blooming period, typically occurring between late April and early May, draws thousands of visitors for one of the city's most beautiful natural events.
When to Visit
Cherry blossoms are notoriously unpredictable, with the exact bloom timing depending on winter severity and spring temperatures. Peak bloom usually lasts only 4 to 7 days. The City of Toronto's Sakura cam and local weather reports provide the best real-time guidance on bloom status.
Best Viewing Spots in High Park
The main cherry blossom grove is near the north end of the park, but trees are scattered throughout. The area near Grenadier Pond and the hillside paths offer particularly picturesque views. Early morning visits (before 9 AM) offer the best light and smallest crowds.
Beyond High Park
Cherry blossoms can also be found at Trinity Bellwoods Park, the University of Toronto campus, and several smaller parks across the city. Exploring these alternate locations can provide a more peaceful experience during peak bloom weekends.
Tips for a Great Visit
Visit on weekdays if possible to avoid weekend crowds. Bring a picnic but pack out all garbage. Public transit (TTC High Park station) is the best way to arrive, as parking is extremely limited during bloom season. Check the weather forecast, as rain and wind can shorten the bloom period.
